Within the walls of Casa Felice Matteucci, echoes a rich tapestry of history, tradition, and culture, as it once served as the residence of Felice Matteucci (1808 – 1887), credited with inventing the first internal combustion engine (a precursor to the modern motor car) in his workshop on the premises during the summer of 1854. While his father held the esteemed position of counselor to the High Court of Justice of Leopold II, Felice devoted much of his time to tending to the family’s two countryside estates, one of which was Villa Controni/Casa Felice Matteucci, where he pursued his scientific endeavors.
